Nagpur: In a significant move to strengthen student safety in minority schools, Maharashtra State Minority Commission Chairman Pyare Khan has directed all minority-run schools to establish mandatory safety committees within seven days. Failure to comply will attract disciplinary action, he warned.
Khan issued these instructions during a special meeting held at the Planning Bhavan in Nagpur on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by heads of minority schools, school principals, and officials from the education department. The session focused on immediate implementation of safety measures and the enforcement of relevant government resolutions.
“Student safety is the primary responsibility of every school. All minority institutions must set up the mandated committees and submit a compliance report to the School Education Department within a week,” Khan emphasized.
According to government norms, all schools are required to constitute a School Management Committee, Women’s Grievance Redressal Committee, Student Safety Committee, and Physical Infrastructure Development Committee. These bodies are crucial to maintaining transparency and preventing irregularities in school administration.
Khan warned that any delay or negligence in implementing these guidelines would not be tolerated. “These committees are not just formalities. They are essential mechanisms to ensure accountability and a secure environment for students,” he added.
The meeting was attended by Nikhil Bhoyar (Education Officer, Secondary), Deputy Collector Sachin Gosavi, Superintendent Sachin Nath, District Child Protection Coordinator Prasanjit Gaikwad, and Minority Commission officers Mushtaq Pathan and Ganesh Suravase.
During the discussion, several school principals raised issues related to school operations, examination challenges, and funding for linguistic minority institutions. Responding to the concerns, Khan assured them that he would personally take up the matters with the Chief Minister and the Education Minister to ensure policy interventions and financial support.
Meanwhile, the Minority Commission also conducted hearings on pending complaints in Nagpur on the same day. Several long-standing cases from the Vidarbha region were resolved during the session.
