Kalamna police arrest father-son duo, hunt for third accused in alleged vehicle registration fraud

Nagpur: Kalamna police have busted an alleged vehicle registration racket after finding three Eicher trucks bearing the same registration number during a night patrol near the APMC Kalamna Market office. Police have arrested a father-son duo and named another person as a wanted accused, while seizing vehicles and other goods worth ₹55.10 lakh.

The detection branch team was conducting a patrol between 12.50 am and 3.45 am on October 5 when it noticed an Eicher truck bearing registration number MH-40-CT-8683. On verifying the vehicle details through the official vehicle portal, police allegedly found discrepancies in its model, chassis number and engine number.

During further checking, another Eicher truck, valued at around ₹10 lakh, was allegedly found carrying the same registration number. Police claimed that its original chassis number had been concealed using an iron welding arrangement. A third Eicher truck was subsequently found bearing the same number, raising suspicion of deliberate manipulation of registration details.

Police arrested Rajendrasingh Satnamsingh Randhawa (51) and his son Sukhdeep Singh Rajendrasingh Randhawa (24), both reportedly staying on rent in Netaji Nagar, Kalamna. Shivsingh Laxman Jadhav, a resident of Hirapur in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has been named as a wanted accused.

According to police, the seized property includes three Eicher trucks, another truck bearing registration number MH-43-U-6876 loaded with 699 boxes of Parle-G biscuits worth ₹6.05 lakh, an Eicher truck valued at ₹15 lakh and 210 sacks of rice worth ₹4.05 lakh. The total value of the seized vehicles and goods is estimated at ₹55.10 lakh.

Police suspect the accused used duplicate registration plates and allegedly concealed vehicle identification details to make the trucks appear genuine and evade registration checks. The vehicles were allegedly being operated without proper registration, with the intention of deceiving government and semi-government authorities.

Kalamna police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway to ascertain how the registration details were manipulated and whether the accused were involved in similar vehicle-related frauds.
