Nagpur: A 28-year-old man has been booked by Kalamna Police in Nagpur after a 25-year-old woman accused him of repeatedly sexually exploiting her for several years by allegedly promising to marry her. The complaint was filed after the woman learnt that the accused had recently become engaged to another woman.
The accused has been identified as Aman Ganesh Dhakate (28), a resident of Adampada Chowk, Lakadganj.
According to police, the complainant, a 25-year-old woman employed at a private company, came into contact with Dhakate through Facebook in 2019 while she was pursuing her studies. Their online conversations gradually developed into a relationship, and they later exchanged phone numbers and started meeting regularly.
The woman alleged that during one of his visits to her house, Dhakate asked her to have physical relations with him. When she initially refused, he allegedly assured her that he would marry her within a few months. Trusting his promise, she consented to the relationship.
The complainant further stated that she introduced Dhakate to her parents, and marriage discussions were held between both families. However, Dhakate allegedly claimed that his parents opposed love marriages and requested more time before the wedding.
Based on this assurance, the woman alleged that from 2019 until June 2026, Dhakate repeatedly established physical relations with her at various places, allegedly introducing her as his wife during their stays together.
Over the past three to four months, when the woman repeatedly insisted on fixing a wedding date, Dhakate allegedly began avoiding the issue.
Engagement to Another Woman Sparks Police Complaint
The woman alleged that on July 3, she learnt that Dhakate had performed his engagement ceremony with another woman. She, accompanied by her mother, visited his residence to confront him.
According to the complaint, Dhakate and his relatives allegedly misled them, verbally abused them, and ultimately refused the marriage proposal before forcing them to leave the house. After neighbours confirmed that Dhakate’s engagement had indeed taken place, the woman approached Kalamna Police Station.
She lodged a complaint accusing Dhakate of establishing physical relations with her on the false promise of marriage and cheating her. Based on her complaint, Kalamna Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
Police said the matter is under investigation, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings.
