Nagpur: A 25-year-old man has been booked by Tehsil police for allegedly assaulting his 22-year-old former girlfriend, abusing her and hitting her on the head with a stone after stopping her on the road near Sutar Market in Gandhibagh.

According to the police complaint, the woman and the accused, identified as Piyush Dharmendra Devgade, became acquainted in 2020 while studying at college. Their friendship subsequently developed into a romantic relationship. However, the two separated following a dispute in July 2023 and had not been in contact since then.

The incident occurred on October 14, 2026, when the woman was passing through the area on her way to work. The accused allegedly stopped her on the road and asked where she was going. When she replied that she was heading to work, an argument broke out.

During the confrontation, the accused allegedly hurled obscene abuses at her and attempted to take her mobile phone. When she refused to hand it over, he allegedly assaulted her with his fists.

As the woman fled in fear, the accused allegedly threw a small stone at her from behind, hitting her on the head.

The injured woman was taken to Mayo Hospital for medical treatment. Based on her complaint, Tehsil police registered a case against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
