Nagpur: A 36-year-old Nagpur man has been booked in two separate cases involving allegations of sexual harassment and rape, with both complaints centring on alleged promises of marriage, police said.
The accused has been identified as Pritam Ravi Lavankar (36), a resident of the Pimpala Fata area near Sahyadri School in Nagpur. He has been booked by Bajaj Nagar and Beltarodi police in separate cases registered on July 30.
Molestation allegation after meeting on matrimonial platform
According to the Bajaj Nagar police complaint, a 34-year-old woman came in contact with Lavankar through the matrimonial platform Jeevansathi. After exchanging phone numbers, the two allegedly began speaking and meeting.
Police said Lavankar later called the woman to a location on the pretext of discussing an issue. During their conversation, he allegedly told her that he liked her and wanted to marry her. The woman alleged that he then put his hand around her waist and attempted to touch her inappropriately.
When she objected, an argument allegedly broke out and both left the spot.
The woman later allegedly learnt that Lavankar was involved with another woman. When she questioned him about it, he allegedly abused her. She further alleged that he had lured her with a promise of marriage and behaved inappropriately with her, causing her mental distress and humiliation.
Bajaj Nagar Police registered the case under Sections 74 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Second woman alleges rape on promise of marriage
In the second case, Beltarodi Police booked Lavankar after a 31-year-old woman alleged that he repeatedly forced her into sexual relations after promising to marry her.
According to the complaint, the woman met Lavankar through Facebook in January 2026. Their conversations over phone and messages reportedly developed into friendship and later a romantic relationship.
The woman alleged that Lavankar subsequently took her to different locations, including a hotel on Besa Road in the Manish Nagar area, and established physical relations with her against her wishes on multiple occasions after promising marriage.
When she later asked him to marry her, he allegedly abused her and refused, following which she approached the police.
Beltarodi Police registered the case under Section 69 of the BNS, relating to sexual intercourse by deceitful means, including a false promise of marriage.
Both cases were registered on July 30, and police are investigating the allegations. No arrest had been reported at the time of registration of the cases.
The cases are based on allegations made in the respective complaints, and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
