Nagpur: A 31-year-old man was allegedly assaulted with a sharp weapon by a history-sheeter and his associates following an argument near Narendra Nagar railway overbridge in Nagpur, police said.

The incident took place between 10.40 pm and 10.50 pm on July 29, near the residence of one Balaji Shirpurkar in Panchsheel Nagar, within the jurisdiction of Gittikhadan Police Station.

According to the FIR, the complainant, identified as Sunny Sunil Chandrikapure (31), was discussing a matter related to a Buddhist vihara with his friend Sachin Pille when accused Ashish Moreish Wilson (27) and his associates allegedly arrived and picked a quarrel with him.

The accused allegedly attacked Chandrikapure from behind with a sharp weapon, striking him on the head. The complainant reportedly fell to the ground, and when he attempted to get up and flee, the accused allegedly assaulted him again.

Police have alleged that Wilson subsequently struck Chandrikapure on the head with the sharp weapon with an apparent attempt to kill him.

Based on the complaint, Gittikhadan Police registered a case under Sections 109(1), 115(2), 91(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Wilson has a lengthy criminal record, with multiple cases registered against him at Gittikhadan Police Station, including cases involving murder, assault, rioting, criminal intimidation and violations of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. Police records also indicate that preventive action and externment proceedings had previously been initiated against him.

Further investigation is underway.
