Nagpur: A prisoner at Nagpur Central Jail was caught in possession of 41 grams of ganja following a visit to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday.

The accused, Yashwant Balu Shinde (38), a resident of Raigad district, is currently serving a sentence after his conviction in a criminal case.

According to police sources, Shinde’s health deteriorated on Monday, leading authorities to take him to GMCH for a medical check-up. Upon returning to the jail, officials discovered the ganja hidden inside a napkin he was carrying in his left hand.

Dhantoli Police have registered a case against Shinde and launched an investigation to determine how he obtained the contraband during the hospital visit.

Authorities are emphasizing stricter monitoring of inmates during hospital visits to prevent illegal drugs from entering the jail premises.
