Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal presides over grand opening; 189 participants across four teams compete in multiple sports



Nagpur: The 33rd Annual Police Sports Competition 2025, organized by Nagpur Police Commissionerate, was inaugurated on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 4:00 PM under the chairmanship of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal. The event saw the presence of senior officials, including Joint Police Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, Shivajirao Rathod, Additional Police Commissioner (South Division), Rajendra Dabhade, Additional Police Commissioner (North Division), and Vasant Pardeshi, Additional Police Commissioner (Crime).


The inauguration ceremony commenced with a police band performance welcoming the dignitaries. The officials were further honored with plant saplings, symbolizing a gesture of respect and welcome. Female police personnel from Nandanvan Police Station, performing a mythological dance on the song ‘Arambh Hai Prachand’, added cultural flair to the event. The competition included four teams comprising five officers and 124 personnel, who showcased excellent coordination and team spirit in a march-past demonstration.


In his introductory address, Joint Police Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy stated that four teams had been formed for the 2025 edition:


  1. South Regional Division Team under Additional Police Commissioner (South Division)
  2. North Regional Division Team under Additional Police Commissioner (North Division)
  3. Crime Branch Team under all Nagpur Police Branches
  4. Police Headquarters Team


A total of 189 players registered for the competition, with expectations for them to display their best athletic skills and sportsmanship.


Police Commissioner Singal, in his presidential address, welcomed all participants, officers, staff, and their families, appreciating the large turnout and their enthusiasm for sports. He congratulated players who had won medals at the All India Kida Competition 2025, expressing hope that participants would continue to contribute positively to the 33rd edition. He emphasized the importance of preparation and discipline, stating that such competitions help develop skilled and disciplined players.


The event also featured multiple sports, including athletics, kho-kho, kabaddi, wushu, judo, karate, volleyball, and basketball. Deputy Police Commissioner Lohit Matani was specially appreciated for his significant contribution to organizing these events. The role of the media and journalists in covering the event was also acknowledged, highlighting their importance in disseminating information to the public.


The ceremonial torch was carried by Shubham Jangde, a gold medalist from the All India Level Competition 2025, and the Police Commissioner officially lit the torch, marking the inauguration of the competition. Following this, all participants took a collective oath, administered by RSI Police Headquarters Nagpur, pledging fair play and dedication to sportsmanship.


The inauguration was attended by all Deputy Police Commissioners , Assistant Police Commissioners, Inspectors, officers, staff, players, and their family members, reflecting the scale and grandeur of the event. The program was coordinated by SPO Kose and SPO Sanjay Singh Thakur, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Deputy Police Commissioner (Headquarters) Deepak Agrawal.
