Nagpur Census 2026 Begins: Nitin Gadkari, Mayor Nita Thakare Complete Self-Enumeration, Citizens Urged to Participate

Nagpur: The 16th National Census process officially began in Nagpur on Friday with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Mayor Nita Thakare participating through the self-enumeration digital system and appealing to citizens to join the national exercise.


Carried out under the slogan “Census for Public Welfare”, the nationwide census campaign has started with a fully digital process. Officials said citizens can complete their self-enumeration from May 1 to May 15, 2026.


Gadkari, Mayor Participate in Digital Census Process

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Mayor Nita Thakare registered their participation by completing their own census details online. They also urged residents of Nagpur to cooperate by using the self-enumeration facility.


Joining the first phase were Deputy Mayor Leela Hathibed, ruling party leader Narendra (Balya) Borkar, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin, Additional Commissioner Ankit, and all zonal chairpersons, who also completed their digital self-enumeration.


Nagpur Census to be Conducted Fully Online

According to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), the census in the city has commenced from May 1 and will be conducted entirely through digital means.


After the self-enumeration phase concludes on May 15, field enumerators will visit households from May 16 to June 14 and collect data using the HLO App (House Listing Operation Application).


4,500 Enumerators and 700 Supervisors Appointed

For the census operation within Nagpur Municipal Corporation limits:

  • 4,500 enumerators have been appointed
  • 700 supervisors deployed
  • Each enumerator will collect information from around 800 citizens


Nagpur Population as per 2011 Census

As per the 2011 Census, Nagpur had a population of 24,05,665.

  • Male Population: 12,25,405
  • Female Population: 11,80,260


How to Fill Census Online

Citizens can submit their details through the official portal:

se.census.gov.in

Residents can use mobile phones or computers. The portal supports 16 languages.

After the head of the family logs in and submits details, an 11-digit SE ID will be generated. This ID must be saved and shown to enumerators during house visits.

Residents will need to answer 33 questions related to:


House Details

  • Building number
  • Census house number
  • Material used for floor, walls, roof
  • Use of house
  • House condition
  • Family number


Family Information

  • Total members living in household
  • Name of family head
  • Gender of family head
  • Social category (SC/ST/OBC if applicable)
  • Ownership status of house
  • Number of rooms
  • Number of married couples in household


Basic Facilities

  • Main source of drinking water
  • Availability of water source
  • Main source of lighting
  • Toilet availability and type
  • Wastewater drainage system
  • Bathroom availability
  • Kitchen availability
  • LPG/PNG connection
  • Main cooking fuel


Commissioner Appeals to Government Offices

Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin appealed to heads of all government offices to motivate their staff members to complete self-enumeration and support the national development process.


Nagpur Citizens Asked to Participate

Authorities have urged all citizens to complete the process within the given timeline and cooperate in making the National Census 2026 successful.
