Mumbai: At least six people have died and four others were injured after a landslide struck Mumbai's Kurla area in the early hours of Wednesday following heavy rainfall across the city.

The landslide occurred at around 3 a.m. in the Ashok Nagar area under the jurisdiction of the Ghatkopar Police Station. Rescue operations are underway, with teams from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Mumbai Police, and other emergency agencies deployed at the site.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ganesh Shinde said authorities initially feared that four to five people were trapped under the debris. Search and rescue efforts are continuing to ensure no one remains buried.

Victims Identified

Among those killed were Sahil Ansari (28) and Mohamad Samir (14), who were declared brought dead at Rajawadi Hospital. Officials later confirmed that the death toll had risen to six.

The injured include Sohel Ansari (18) and Mohamad Ansari (14), who are undergoing treatment at a hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Visuals from the scene showed rescue teams clearing debris while grieving family members gathered near ambulances as the victims were taken away.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Mumbai

The landslide followed intense overnight rainfall that affected several parts of Mumbai, leading to waterlogging and disruptions in road and air traffic.

Earlier on Tuesday, SpiceJet issued a travel advisory warning passengers of possible delays due to adverse weather conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has been issuing rain alerts as Mumbai continues to witness spells of heavy monsoon rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Authorities Continue Rescue Efforts

Officials said rescue operations remain underway as emergency teams continue searching the debris. Authorities have urged residents in landslide-prone areas to remain alert and follow official advisories during the ongoing monsoon season.
