Nagpur: Ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly’s Winter Session, set to commence in Nagpur on December 16, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) on Wednesday, December 11, has appealed to civic authorities, development agencies, and citizens to refrain from conducting excavation work in the city. MSEDCL emphasized that prior intimation of any emergency excavation will help prevent damages and minimize inconvenience to power consumers.
To ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the Winter Session, MSEDCL has undertaken extensive preparations and urged all development agencies to cooperate. The city is currently witnessing large-scale infrastructure development by entities such as Metro Rail, Public Works Department, National Highways Authority of India, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, and private cable and internet companies. The use of heavy drilling machinery for these projects has been causing significant damage to MSEDCL’s underground power distribution network, leading to disruptions in supply and consumer dissatisfaction.
MSEDCL highlighted that contractors often avoid coordinating with relevant departments to expedite project completion, further exacerbating the damage to power infrastructure. To address this, MSEDCL has requested contractors, agencies, and citizens to avoid excavation activities before and during the legislative session.
Meanwhile, MSEDCL officials, including Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke, Superintendent Engineer Amit Paranjpe, and Executive Engineers Hemraj Dhoke and Rajesh Ghatole, have inspected critical locations such as Vidhan Bhavan, Raj Bhavan, Ravi Bhavan, and Nag Bhavan. They reviewed the power distribution systems in these areas and issued necessary instructions to ensure smooth operations during the session.
To prevent disruptions in VIP zones, MSEDCL has implemented an alternative power supply system. In the event of a fault in one power line, electricity will be supplied through another line. Additionally, maintenance of power infrastructure in key areas like Vidhan Bhavan, Zero Mile, Raj Bhavan, Ramgiri, Devgiri, MLA residences, New Hyderabad House, Chief Minister’s Secretariat, and the 160-room galla (legislative complex) has been completed.
MSEDCL assured that its staff will remain on duty 24/7 to ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the Winter Session.
