Nagpur: Kalamna Police apprehended a 25-year-old suspect for possessing MD powder during a late-night patrol under Operation Thunder, a campaign aimed at curbing narcotics distribution and consumption in the city. The initiative is being driven under the directives of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal.
Between 10:40 pm on November 26 and 12:10 am on November 27, officers from Kalamna Police Station intercepted a Passion Pro motorcycle (MH-49 V-5328) near Govind Lawn on Bharatwada Road following a tip-off. The rider was identified as Vishal alias Bhati Radheshyam Bawne, a resident of Navkanya Nagar, Kalamna.
A personal search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses led to the recovery of 3.31 grams of MD powder from a plastic zip-lock pouch kept in his shirt pocket. Police also seized his mobile phone and motorcycle, valuing the total seizure at ₹95,000.
During interrogation, Bawne revealed that the contraband was supplied by his associate, Hari Pal Hinsaram Banotiya (32), a resident of Durga Nagar, who is currently absconding. Police said the accused was carrying the drug for sale to earn quick profits.
An offence has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(b) and 29 of the NDPS Act at Kalamna Police Station. The arrested accused has been remanded to custody, while a search for the wanted accomplice is underway.
The action was carried out under the supervision of senior officers, including DCP Niketan Kadam and ACP Rohit Owhal.
