Nagpur: A shocking case of fratricide came to light in Nagpur after a 42-year-old man allegedly killed his younger brother following a dispute over Rs 5,500 and later informed the police control room about the murder.

According to police, on May 24, 2026, Beat Marshals attached to the local police station received a CFS alert from the 100/112 Control Room. The message stated, “I have killed my brother.”

Acting immediately on the information, police personnel rushed to Hiwari Nagar slum area, where the caller, identified as Bhagwan Govindrao Babule (42), was found at the scene. He informed the police that the deceased man lying in the courtyard was his younger brother, Pradeep Govindrao Babule (39), both residents of Hiwari Nagar slum.

During preliminary questioning, the accused revealed that the deceased had received around Rs 5,500 as labour wages. An argument reportedly broke out between the two brothers over the money. The dispute escalated, causing Bhagwan to lose control, following which he allegedly assaulted Pradeep using a “Tommy” — an iron tool available at the spot.

Police said Pradeep sustained severe injuries in the attack and died on the spot.

After reaching the location, police inspected and secured the crime scene, which was the courtyard of the house where both brothers lived and where the altercation took place. Officials confirmed that no law and order issue arose in the area and the situation remained peaceful without any tension.

Initial investigation and local inquiry revealed that neither the accused nor the deceased had any prior criminal background. Both brothers worked as furniture labourers. Police further stated that the deceased was unmarried and did not have a separate family, while the accused is married and has one son and one daughter.

Verification of police station records also confirmed that no previous complaints, non-cognizable offences, or criminal cases had been registered against either of them.

Police said the incident appears to have occurred due to a sudden quarrel and momentary provocation. Further investigation and legal proceedings are currently underway.
