Mumbai: In a high-level meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, several key infrastructure proposals concerning Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation were reviewed and approved. Nagpur District Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, along with senior secretaries and officials from various departments, were present.
Affordable Housing for 7,000 Workers in Kamptee Under PMAY:
Highlighting a significant development for labour welfare, Minister Bawankule announced that 7,000 houses will be constructed for contract employees in Kamptee under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY). The project will be developed on a commercial basis by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC), and instructions have been issued to begin the project on a priority basis. Additionally, the premises of the Government Printing Press will also be redeveloped, with space allocated for offices of the Printing Department and the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
Experience Centre at Zero Mile Stone Approved:
Fadnavis gave a green signal to a proposal by Nagpur Municipal Corporation to develop the Zero Mile Stone area into a tourist-friendly destination. This historic spot, marking the geographical centre of undivided India, will soon feature an “Experience Centre” showcasing the region’s legacy and how Nagpur came to be its focal point. The Rs 45 crore project will include a museum, public amenities, and a parking facility, built using natural lighting and maintained by the civic body.
Nagpur to Get a New Jail in Babulkheda:
Approval was granted for the construction of a modern jail near Babulkheda in Kamptee taluka on 81.6 acres of land. The plan will be executed in consultation with architects who designed jails in Palghar, Taloda, and Delhi. The facility will follow jail manual guidelines and include staff housing.
Orange City Street to Host Performing Arts Academy:
A Performance Gallery and Academy of Performing Arts will be developed at the Orange City Street project site. The 20,000 sq. metre area has been approved for 6.2 lakh sq. ft. of construction, including a 1.2 lakh sq. ft. auditorium and additional public amenities.
City Bus Stands and Market Redevelopment in the Pipeline:
Redevelopment plans for Mor Bhavan and Ganeshpeth bus stations were discussed. While Mor Bhavan will cater to city and private buses, Ganeshpeth will serve MSRTC and city buses. Fadnavis also directed upgrades in the Cotton Market, Dahi Bazaar, Itwari, Netaji Market, and Orange Market areas.
‘New Nagpur’ Vision Project Gets In-Principle Nod:
Fadnavis also gave in-principle approval to the futuristic ‘New Nagpur’ project, to be implemented by the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA). The new township will become a hub for startups, MSMEs, tech firms, and international service providers. A state-of-the-art underground utility tunnel system will be a key feature, offering district cooling, automated waste management, and essential civic services. The plug-and-play model aims to attract investment, generate massive employment in the IT and service sectors, and boost Nagpur’s economic importance.
