Nagpur: A case has been registered against Dr. Debashish Bhowmick, the principal of Prof. Arunraj Kalode College, for allegedly cutting trees without proper authorisation. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Ajni Police Station.
According to police, on July 31, at Kalode College in Indraprastha Layout, Omkar Nagar, several heritage and non-heritage trees were reportedly felled without prior permission. The matter came to light following a complaint by Dr. Umesh Chute to the Garden and Tree Authority Department of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
An inspection by NMC officials confirmed that nine trees, including two teakwood trees, were cut down illegally. The felled trees were discovered loaded onto a pickup vehicle with registration number MH 49 AT 6365.
Based on a complaint lodged by Amol Chorpagar, a tree conservation officer with the NMC, a case has been registered against Dr. Bhowmick under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act. Further investigations are ongoing.
