Nagpur: Jaripatka Police arrested a man for allegedly possessing and attempting to sell MD powder during a late-night patrol operation conducted under the city police’s anti-drug initiative, “Operation Thunder – Let Us Unite to Build a Drug-Free Society.”
The operation has been launched under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal to crack down on drug peddlers, possession of narcotic substances, and drug consumption across the city.
According to police officials, between 2:35 am and 4:30 am on May 26, 2026, the Jaripatka Police investigation team was patrolling the area when they received credible information about a suspect standing near Ashoka Rasoi on Nirmal Colony Road with MD powder intended for sale.
When the police reached the spot, they found two men standing near a blue Access moped. One suspect fled after noticing the police, while the other was detained.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Sadiq Mohammad Rafiq Ansari, 34, a resident of Ansar Nagar, Mominpura, Nagpur. The absconding accused was identified as Imran Qureshi, 40, also from Ansar Nagar, Mominpura.
Police conducted a search following provisions of the NDPS Act and recovered 2 grams and 19 milligrams of MD powder from the accused. Officers also seized a mobile phone and a moped bearing registration number MH-49-CH-8798.
The total value of the seized material has been estimated at ₹1.20 lakh.
Police stated that the accused was allegedly carrying the narcotic substance for financial gain and illegal sale. A case has been registered at Jaripatka Police Station under Sections 8(c), 22(b), and 29 of the NDPS Act.
The accused has been arrested, while efforts are underway to trace the absconding suspect. Further investigation is ongoing.
