Nagpur: The long-awaited Maharashtra State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) Battalion No. 5 at Isasani in the Katol–Narkhed constituency has received a major push, with the state government sanctioning ₹58.86 crore for its infrastructure development. The confirmation was given by NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Salil Deshmukh, who had been consistently following up the matter with the state administration.
Deshmukh said the project, which was originally proposed by former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, had been pending for several years due to a lack of funds. “After persistent follow-up with the Maharashtra Police Housing and Welfare Corporation, the government has now approved ₹58.86 crore for the construction of the administrative building, residential quarters, and other essential facilities,” he said. The Corporation, he added, has already floated tenders for the work.
The SRPF Battalion No. 5, currently functioning from the SRPF Camp in Amravati, was sanctioned under a Government Resolution issued on May 12, 2022. Earlier, the state had allotted 42.65 hectares of land at Isasani for the battalion’s permanent setup. With funds now approved, construction is expected to begin soon, following which the battalion will be relocated from Amravati to Katol.
Once completed, the new complex will include administrative offices, residential quarters, and other essential amenities for police personnel.
“This battalion will serve as a key security presence between Katol and Narkhed talukas. It will not only strengthen regional policing but also generate local employment opportunities,” Salil Deshmukh added.
