Nagpur: A 27-year-old man who had been officially externed from Nagpur city and district was arrested with a dangerous weapon by the Crime Branch Unit 2 near Ambazari Lake.
Around 4:30 PM on July 17, the Crime Branch team was patrolling the Ambazari police jurisdiction when they received a tip-off about an externed individual loitering near the old Ambedkar Bhavan. Upon reaching the location, the suspect attempted to flee but was quickly caught. He identified himself as Akshay Kishor Madavi, a resident of New Futala Vasti, Nagpur.
A personal search conducted in the presence of witnesses led to the recovery of a 500-rupee iron knife. On verification, police found that Madavi had been externed from Nagpur city and rural areas for a year under order no. 10/2025 issued on May 14, 2025, by the DCP, Zone 2. His presence within prohibited limits while carrying a weapon raised suspicions of an intent to commit a cognizable offence.
Ambazari Police registered a case under Section 4/25 of the BNS along with Sections 135 and 142 of the Maharashtra Police Act, and Madavi was taken into custody. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner Ravindra Kumar Singal, Addl. CP (Crime) Sanjay Patil, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijit Patil, by PI Mahesh Sagle and his team.
