Nagpur: The regional meteorological department has predicted ongoing rainfall in Vidarbha, including Nagpur. While the intensity of rain has been mild so far, the department now anticipates light to moderate showers over the next two days, with heavy rains expected to begin on July 7.
Currently, weather systems conducive to rain are active across Maharashtra and other parts of the country. The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is influencing both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, bringing monsoon rains to Maharashtra and Vidarbha. This system is likely to lead to significant rainfall soon.
Although the monsoon has been active for the past eight to ten days, consistent heavy rains have been sparse. The only notable downpour occurred on the night of June 30. Since then, the rain has continued, but at a lighter intensity than expected.
On the night of July 3, Wednesday, Nagpur experienced good rainfall, with 31.1 mm recorded by 5 am. However, Thursday saw only light drizzle, which brought down the daytime temperature by 4 degrees to 30.9 degrees Celsius in the city. The meteorological department forecasts moderate rainfall for the next couple of days.
