Nagpur: In view of an impending heat wave and rising temperatures, the Nagpur district administration has announced a one-day holiday for all educational institutions on April 18, prioritizing student safety.

The decision follows a Yellow Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department, warning of heat wave conditions in parts of the district. Officials noted a sharp increase in temperatures in recent days, raising concerns about potential health risks, especially for children.

Exercising powers under the Disaster Management Act 2005, District Collector Kumar Ashirvad ordered the closure of all anganwadis, primary and secondary schools, colleges, and coaching classes across Nagpur district on Saturday, April 18, 2026.

The administration stated that the move is a precautionary measure to protect students from heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

Authorities have also urged citizens to take necessary precautions during extreme heat conditions, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours, and taking special care of children and the elderly.

The order has been issued in accordance with existing government guidelines and disaster management provisions, ensuring timely preventive action amid worsening weather conditions.
