Nagpur: The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has directed authorities to frame comprehensive rules to permanently curb the sale, storage, transportation and use of nylon manja in the Nagpur and Amravati divisions.

Following the court’s directions, the District Collector’s Office, Police Commissionerate and Nagpur Municipal Corporation have been instructed to prepare a separate regulatory framework aimed at preventing the use of nylon manja.

The court had earlier issued an order on January 12, 2026, prescribing penalties for violations related to the use and storage of nylon manja.

As per the order, a ₹25,000 fine will be imposed on anyone found flying kites using nylon manja. If the person involved is a minor, the fine will be recovered from their parents.

A ₹2.5 lakh penalty will be imposed on sellers found storing nylon manja. The penalty will be recovered separately for every violation.

Additional District Magistrate Anup Khande appealed to citizens to take note of the court’s directions and refrain from using, selling or storing nylon manja.

The move comes amid continued efforts by authorities to prevent accidents and injuries linked to the use of banned nylon manja during the kite-flying season.
