Nagpur: Panic gripped Nandanvan after a history-sheeter was brutally murdered in a gang rivalry, marking the sixth murder in the city within a week and raising concerns over rising violent crime.

The deceased, Sanjay alias Monu Thakur (32), was attacked by rival criminal Ayush alias Motya Ludhekar and his minor accomplice on Friday night. Police said the incident stemmed from an old rivalry between the two.

Earlier in the day, Monu had allegedly assaulted Motya, triggering retaliation. Around 8 pm, Motya intercepted Monu near Lane No. 1 and attacked him with a sharp weapon, killing him on the spot before fleeing.

Monu was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The brutal murder brought fear in the locality, with residents reporting heightened tension.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused and his accomplice. Officials said the spike in murder cases—six in just seven days—has put law enforcement on high alert, with additional measures likely to curb escalating gang violence.
