Ajni Police Seize Banned Tobacco Worth Over Rs 2 Lakh Under ‘Operation Thunder’; One Arrested in Nagpur

Nagpur: Acting under the ongoing “Operation Thunder” launched across the city against narcotics and prohibited substances, the Nagpur City Police registered a case against a man for allegedly possessing and selling banned tobacco products in the Ajni area.


According to police, on May 21, 2026, between 1.35 pm and 4.30 pm, a team from Ajni Police Stationwas patrolling the jurisdiction when they received credible information about illegal sale of prohibited tobacco products near The Cake Zone shop at Omkar Nagar.


Acting on the tip-off along with officials from the Food Safety Department, police raided the spot and caught accused Pramod Rameshwar Titre (59), a resident of Niranjan Nagar, Beltarodi, allegedly selling banned scented tobacco and pan masala from a two-wheeler bearing registration number MH-49-CV-9385.


Police seized prohibited tobacco products including Vimal, Rajshree and KP Double Black pouches along with the vehicle. During further investigation, a search at the accused’s residence led to the recovery of 85.703 kg of banned tobacco and scented pan masala stored in plastic sacks.


The seized material was valued at Rs 1,37,367, while the total seizure, including the vehicle and tobacco products, amounted to Rs 2,01,782.


Based on a complaint lodged by Food Safety Officer Kiran Rangaswami Gedam (59), police registered a case under Sections 123, 223, 274 and 275 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 59 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway.


The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Navinchandra Reddy, DCP Rashmita Rao and ACP Narendra Hivare along with the Ajni police team.
