Nagpur: A major crackdown on counterfeit steel products has been carried out in the city after fake JSW-branded sheets were found being sold openly under the guise of original material. Acting on a formal complaint lodged by JSW’s authorised team, Lakadganj Police conducted a raid on a local unit trading under the name Prime Ispat.
According to officials, the operation was led by Police Inspector Shirsagar from Lakadganj Police Station. During the raid, police seized a large quantity of fake JSW steel sheets allegedly being supplied to local markets. The counterfeit products were being passed off as genuine JSW material, posing risks for construction buyers and causing losses to the brand’s reputation.
Prime Ispat Operator Arrested
The accused has been identified as Kamal Jain (53), the operator of Prime Ispat. He has been arrested for allegedly manufacturing and selling counterfeit steel sheets under the JSW label.
An FIR has been registered under Crime No. 1005/2025, and charges have been filed under:
- Section 51(B)(i) and 63(A) of the Copyright Act, 1957
- Section 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police officials stated that the circulation of fake steel sheets not only violates intellectual property rights but may also compromise safety in construction projects where such materials are used.
Further Investigation Underway
Lakadganj Police have initiated a detailed investigation to trace the supply network behind the counterfeit products, including sourcing, distribution channels and potential involvement of other traders.
JSW’s legal team is assisting authorities to ensure strict action against those involved in brand infringement and illegal trade practices.
Police have urged buyers, distributors and contractors to verify material authenticity while purchasing steel sheets to avoid financial losses and safety risks.
