Nagpur: A young woman practising as a doctor, identified as Dr. Ritu Deshmukh, has been arrested for allegedly murdering her boyfriend Balaji Kalyane (24), a native of Mudkhed in Nanded district, following a dispute over marriage. The incident occurred late at night in Nandanvan Colony, leaving the neighbourhood shocked by the brutal crime.

According to police, Deshmukh stabbed Kalyane in the chest while he was asleep. In an attempt to mislead investigators, she allegedly inflicted injuries on herself and claimed that Kalyane first attacked her before attempting to take his own life. Police say she tried to portray the incident as a failed murder-suicide.

However, when CCTV footage, technical evidence, and medical reports were examined, several inconsistencies surfaced. Forensic findings contradicted Deshmukh’s version of events, leading police to conclude that the killing was premeditated. She was taken into custody shortly after.

Argument Over Marriage Led to Murder

Preliminary investigation indicates the couple had been arguing for months over their future. Deshmukh had allegedly refused Kalyane’s marriage proposal, leading to repeated disputes. The confrontation escalated on Thursday night, ending in the fatal attack.

Shock in the Neighbourhood

Residents of Nandanvan Colony expressed disbelief that a medical professional — entrusted with saving lives — could be involved in such an act. Many voiced anger at her alleged attempt to fabricate evidence and mislead the police.

Police officials said the investigation is ongoing, with teams examining the couple’s relationship history, the motive, and whether anyone else was involved in planning or influencing the crime.
