Nagpur: The holiday for Eid-e-Milad, declared by the state government for Monday, will remain unchanged in Nagpur district. This decision was confirmed by District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar during a meeting held on Saturday at the District Collector’s office, attended by representatives of Muslim community organizations.

The Maharashtra government had included Eid-e-Milad among the 24 public holidays listed for government offices in 2024. With Eid-e-Milad falling on September 16 and Anant Chaturdashi on September 17, concerns were raised about potential security issues due to the close proximity of the two significant events.

In response to these concerns, authorities in Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, and some other districts decided to move the Eid-e-Milad processions from September 16 to September 18 to maintain public order and social harmony. Consequently, the holiday in Mumbai and its suburbs was shifted from September 16 to September 18, as confirmed by a letter issued by Deputy Secretary of the state government, Deepak More, on September 13.

The state government had given district collectors the authority to make decisions regarding changes to the holiday schedule based on local conditions. Following these directives, Dr. Itankar held a meeting to discuss the situation in Nagpur, with Nagpur Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal and Suprintendant of Police (Nagpur Rural) Harsh Poddar also present.

Ultimately, it was decided that the Eid-e-Milad holiday in Nagpur will remain on Monday, as originally planned.
