Nagpur: In a significant initiative to promote constitutional awareness and honour Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy, the Constitution Preamble Park and a full-sized statue of Dr. Ambedkar were inaugurated at the School of Law, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on Saturday, June 28. The inauguration was conducted by Chief Justice of India Justice Bhushan Gavai, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Speaking at the event, CM Fadnavis emphasized that the Preamble is the soul of the Constitution and said, “If every citizen adopts the values enshrined in the Preamble, 90% of the country’s problems can be resolved.” He noted that Dr. Ambedkar beautifully blended global and Indian values to craft the Indian Constitution. The inauguration at the very law college where Ambedkar studied is a matter of pride, Fadnavis added, announcing support for a new building for the college and additional facilities for the park.

CJI Justice Bhushan Gavai highlighted that establishing the park in Nagpur—where Dr. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism—is a meaningful tribute. “The Constitution Preamble Park will serve as a lasting reminder of Dr. Ambedkar’s vision and inspire all who visit,” he said. He expressed satisfaction over attending the inauguration during his first visit to Nagpur after assuming charge as Chief Justice in the Constitution’s Amrit Mahotsav year.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said the initiative is a matter of great pride for him as an alumnus of the university. “The park ensures that the Constitution’s fundamental values reach both students and the broader public,” he remarked. Gadkari also announced a ₹1 crore grant for the university’s e-library and praised its legacy of producing national leaders, including Prime Ministers and Chief Justices.

Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat acknowledged his ministry’s financial support for the park and shared future plans to enhance it. During the event, several alumni—including Gadkari, Fadnavis, Minister of State Adv. Ashish Jaiswal, and multiple sitting High Court judges—were felicitated by CJI Gavai.

Constitution Preamble Park Committee Chairperson Girish Gandhi provided an overview of the project’s development stages. Committee member Puran Meshram recited the Preamble, while the university’s Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Madhavi Khode-Chavare delivered the welcome address. Dr. Ravishankar More, Director of the School of Law, extended the vote of thanks.
