Nagpur: A late-night joyride turned tragic when a car carrying four friends crashed into a tree near Chandika Nagar, Ramteshwari, under the jurisdiction of Ajni Police Station, late on October 28.

The accident occurred around 11:40 PM, when the group was travelling from Besa towards Mane Wada in a car bearing registration number MH 46 P 2056. Police said the vehicle, driven by Shreyash Keshav Gaikwad, was moving at high speed when the driver lost control and rammed into a roadside tree near Celebration Lawn.

In the collision, Bhavesh Gopal Talekar (25), a resident of Ayodhya Nagar, sustained fatal injuries, while his friend Nihar Rajesh Asatkar was critically injured. Two others — Shreyash Rajesh Patil and driver Shreyash Gaikwad — also suffered minor injuries.

All four were rushed to Medical Hospital, where doctors declared Bhavesh dead on arrival. Nihar remains under critical care at Neurone Hospital, while the others are being treated for their injuries.

Following a complaint lodged by Ganesh Anantrao Talekar (47), uncle of the deceased, Ajni Police have registered a case against the car driver under Sections 281, 106(1), and 151(1) of the BNS, along with Sections 134 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
