Nagpur: In the wake of recent Hingna hostel mile station incident, Beltarodi police conducted a special awareness program on ‘Women’s Safety and Self-Defense’ on Friday under the ‘Police Didi’ initiative at the Government Girls’ Hostel located at Khapri Rehabilitation Campus of Government College of Engineering. The event was organized by Beltarodi Police Station as part of their continuous efforts to promote women’s security and empowerment.

During the session, female students were sensitised about internal and external safety threats, with in-depth discussions on harassment, eve-teasing, and local nuisance. Police officials assured that strict and prompt action would be taken against roadside Romeos and those involved in any kind of misbehaviour with women.

Key safety measures in place:

• The hostel premises are equipped with a fully functional CCTV surveillance system monitored regularly.

• Female security guards are deployed in three shifts for round-the-clock protection.

• Entry and exit of students are documented consistently.

• Entry of male visitors is strictly prohibited after 6 PM.

• In case of a medical emergency at night, arrangements are in place to escort the student with a female guard.

• If any student is travelling home, a follow-up is done by contacting her parents for confirmation.

Police officials also shared emergency contact numbers including the 112 helpline, police control room numbers, and direct contact details of Beltarodi Police Station with both students and the hostel warden.

The event was attended by Hostel Warden Mrs. Kshitija Kadam, Principal Dr. Borkar, Professors Samrat Thorat and Prashant Gawhane, among others. During the interaction, students were encouraged to share their concerns and experiences, fostering a sense of trust and building their confidence regarding personal safety.

The primary goal of the program was to instill a sense of security and self-belief among young women. The police department has assured that such awareness drives will be conducted regularly to strengthen women’s safety and public awareness.

“The Police Department is alert and committed to ensuring the safety of women,” said PI Mukund Kawade of Beltarodi Police Station.
