Nagpur: In a swift and commendable response, the Beltarodi police apprehended two brothers involved in a violent robbery on Nagpur-Wardha Road late Saturday night. The accused, identified as Harsh Dilip Rokde (19) and his brother Yash, both residents of Chichbhuvan Slums, allegedly assaulted and looted a Khamla-based businessman and his friend using a road rage tactic.
According to police sources, the complainant, Ashish alias Aashu Jethani (35), a resident of Sindhi Colony, Khamla, was heading to Jamtha for dinner along with a friend in a Hyundai Verna car. Around 11:30 pm, near Chichbhuvan, the duo was intercepted by the Rokde brothers driving an e-rickshaw. The accused allegedly cut in front of Jethani’s car, forcing him to stop.
When Jethani stepped out to confront them, the accused hurled abuses and grabbed him by the collar. In the altercation, the brothers reportedly snatched his gold chain, assaulted both men, and stole ₹14,000 in cash before attempting to flee.
However, luck ran out for the duo as Beltarodi police, led by PSI Giri, were conducting a routine nakabandi merely 100-150 meters away at Khapark Naka Chowki. Alerted by the noise, the team immediately rushed to the spot and apprehended the suspects, who were found to be heavily intoxicated.
Speaking to Nagpur News, Beltarodi Police Inspector Mukund Kawade revealed, “The accused often employ this modus operandi—cutting in front of a vehicle to provoke a confrontation and then looting the victim. A few days ago, we had initiated preventive action against the Rokde brothers during late-night patrols. They have multiple prior offences registered against them.”
A case has been registered against the duo under Sections 309(6), 118(3), 118(2), 351(2), 296, and 34 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
