Nagpur: A youth was brutally murdered in Indora under the jurisdiction of Jaripatka Police Station late on Monday night, coinciding with the first day of the Maharashtra Legislature’s Winter Session in Nagpur. The incident has raised serious concerns about rising crime in the city.

Police sources said the attack took place in a crowded locality, creating panic among residents. The timing of the murder has increased political pressure on law enforcement, as Nagpur hosts the annual Winter Session and faces allegations of becoming the “crime capital” of Maharashtra.

According to the FIR, the deceased, identified as Aditya Pradeep Meshram (22), a resident of Barakholi, was travelling on his EV scooter when he was waylaid by two accused — Prit Ajay Borkar (24) and Avishkar Ravindra Naik (24). The duo, holding a grudge over a fight that occurred on December 7 at a Saoji hotel in Indora, allegedly attacked Aditya with a sharp-edged knife, stabbing him in the neck with the intention to kill.

The injured youth was immediately rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors declared him dead after examination.

Based on the complaint filed by Aditya’s brother, Akash Meshram (27), Jaripatka Police registered a case under relevant sections and launched a manhunt. Both accused were traced and arrested after sustained efforts. A technical investigation is underway, including the examination of CCTV footage from the area.

The brutal killing on the very first day of the Winter Session is expected to fuel debate over crime control, policing gaps, and public safety in Nagpur. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
