Nagpur: A 25-year-old youth lost his life in a tragic vehicular mishap near Medical Chowk under the limits of Ajni Police Station late on February 15.

The deceased has been identified as Ritik Prakash Satav (25), a resident of Rahul Nagar, Wardha Road. According to police, Ritik had visited Government Medical Hospital around 8.30 pm as his wife had delivered a baby. Later, at around 10 pm, he, along with his relative Rahul Sahebrao Kurhade (26) and friend Nayan Gedam (25), was sitting inside a Tata 407 vehicle (MH-40-CM-3487) parked near a beer bar at Medical Chowk, Ajni, allegedly consuming alcohol.

Police said Gedam was seated in the driver’s position while Kurhade was sitting beside him. The vehicle was reportedly in a running condition. During this time, Ritik was sent to bring liquor from a nearby wine shop. As per the complaint, Kurhade’s foot accidentally touched the gear lever, causing the vehicle to move forward. Ritik came in front of the vehicle and was run over, sustaining critical injuries.

While Gedam allegedly attempted to flee with the vehicle, bystanders intercepted it. Kurhade was caught on the spot and handed over to the police. Ritik was rushed to Government Medical Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Based on a complaint lodged by Sunil Bisram Satav (49), Ajni Police have registered a case under Sections 106(1) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the Tata 407 driver. The investigation is being conducted by PSI Manisha Jhanzurne. Further probe is ongoing.
