Nagpur: The Second Capital of the State woke up to intense rainfall on Monday, July 7 morning as a strong monsoon spell swept across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for July 7 and 8, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas of the district.

According to IMD, a low-pressure area is expected to form over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions within the next 12 hours. This system is likely to intensify and significantly impact weather conditions across Vidarbha, including Nagpur, in the coming days.

Waterlogging, Tree Falls Disrupt City Life:

Since early morning, continuous downpour led to waterlogging in several parts of Nagpur, making it difficult for commuters to navigate city roads. Office-goers faced challenges due to flooded streets, resulting in delays and reduced footfall across government and private establishments. Many employees opted to work from home to avoid hazardous travel conditions.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Fire and Emergency Services Department remained on high alert throughout the day, responding to rain-related complaints from across the city. Multiple incidents of tree falls were reported in areas like Jattarodi and Civil Lines, though no casualties were reported at the time of filing this report.

Advisory for Citizens:

Authorities have advised citizens to remain indoors unless necessary and avoid venturing into low-lying or waterlogged areas. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and avoid roads prone to flooding.

The IMD continues to monitor the evolving weather system and has urged the public to stay updated with official alerts over the next 48 hours.
