Nagpur: The construction of a road inside the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) campus was completed late Monday night. The road will be open for vehicular traffic from Tuesday, but exclusively for two-wheelers.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Shashikant Satav reported that after the construction finished, the compound wall was demolished, and road levelling continued late into the night. "If possible, the road will be opened for vehicular traffic movement in the morning," he stated.

Vehicular traffic will be allowed during designated hours from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This schedule, issued by DCP Traffic Satav, will remain in effect until August 15.

The initiative began after VNIT management agreed to temporarily open its 1.2 km road exclusively for two-wheelers through its campus, a process that took nearly three days to complete. To facilitate vehicle entry, a section of VNIT's compound wall opposite the Indian Oil Petrol Pump was demolished. The stretch from this point to Gate No. 3 is designated for two-wheelers only, with four-wheelers prohibited. Traffic police will deploy barricades and plastic cones at each junction, and traffic movement may be briefly halted for student safety.
