Nagpur: Yashodhara Nagar Police have arrested two accused in a major fraud case involving ₹8.88 lakh, where a scrap dealer was cheated under the pretext of supplying subsidized food grains.

The complainant, Shamshuddin alias Bablu Ansari (38), a resident of Yashodhara Nagar in Nagpur, was introduced to the main accused Imran Khan Pathan (40) during a family wedding.

The accused claimed to have strong connections with officials in the Tribal Department and promised to procure rice and lentils at lower prices meant for tribal hostels. Gaining the victim’s trust, the accused, along with multiple accomplices, created fake documents and executed agreements on stamp paper.

Between March 15, 2025, and April 11, 2025, the accused collected ₹8,88,500 in cash from the complainant. Additionally, they took possession of his three-wheeler vehicle (MH 49 D 7005) for transportation purposes.

However, neither the promised goods were delivered nor the vehicle was returned, resulting in financial cheating and breach of trust.

Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused. Two individuals have been arrested so far, while efforts are underway to trace other accomplices.
