Nagpur: A tragic school bus accident involving students from Saraswati High School in Shankar Nagar has left one student dead and several others injured, leading to protests by distressed parents at the school premises.

According to police sources, on Tuesday morning, students from Saraswati High School set out on a picnic to HRS Hikers, Selu, Wardha district, traveling in six buses. Around 9:30 am, as one of the buses (MH 40 Y 7350) was navigating a turn near Devadi Phendri Ghat on Hingna Road, the driver lost control, causing the bus to overturn.

The ill-fated bus was carrying 53 students, along with two teachers, one staff member, and the driver. Emergency responders quickly reached the scene, transporting the injured to hospitals in Nagpur.

One student, Nirvani Bagde, tragically lost her life in the accident. 46 students, along with two teachers and one staff member, were treated at AIIMS Hospital in Nagpur. One of these students has been discharged. Seven other students and the bus driver are receiving treatment at NIMS Hospital, Nagpur.

Following the incident, chaos erupted at Saraswati High School as worried parents rushed to the premises seeking information. Many parents alleged that they were not informed about the accident by the school authorities and only learned about it through media reports.

“The lack of communication from the school administration has left us in deep anxiety. How can they send our children on a picnic without proper safety measures?” questioned parents.

Hingna Police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the mishap. Meanwhile, parents have demanded accountability from the school administration and immediate action to ensure student safety in the future.
