Nagpur: A shortcut attempt turned into a fatal accident in Sonegaon on the morning of February 18, 2026. Around 8:40 am, Manohar Nagarale (65) was riding his Activa moped (MH 31 DD 6740) with his wife Asha Manohar Nagarale (60) as a pillion rider.

Instead of using the designated U-turn near Somalwada Chowk on Wardha Road, the couple attempted to cross the road using a shortcut. At that moment, a Ford Figo car (MH 49 AT 0464) reportedly approached from the direction of Pride Hotel at high speed. Police stated that the driver was operating the vehicle negligently and dangerously when the car collided head-on with the couple’s moped.

Both Manohar and Asha sustained severe injuries in the impact. The car driver transported the injured woman to Aarogyam Hospital and the injured man to Orange City Hospital. While both were undergoing treatment, Asha’s condition deteriorated, and she passed away on February 20 at around 7:15 am. Her husband remains under treatment at Orange City Hospital.

Following a complaint by the couple’s daughter, Bharti Manohar Nagarale (28), Sonegaon Police registered an FIR against the car driver under Sections 106(1), 281, and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
