Nagpur: Traffic on the Shaheed Gowari Adivasi Flyover was thrown out of gear on Friday morning after a tanker got stuck at the height-restriction barrier installed at the entry point of the structure. The incident occurred around 7.30 am when a tanker arriving from Chandrapur attempted to ascend the flyover despite clear restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles.

According to officials, the vehicle became firmly wedged under the height barrier, leading to a brief but severe traffic jam during morning peak hours. Fortunately, the tanker was empty at the time. Police sources confirmed that the same vehicle had earlier carried petrol, raising concerns about the potential scale of danger had it still been loaded during the mishap.

Second Incident Within Hours

In the wee hours of Friday, December 12, a similar violation took place when another truck rammed into the height barrier at the same spot. Residents and commuters expressed frustration, noting that despite repeated warnings and clear signage, heavy vehicles continue to ignore restrictions, resulting in frequent disruptions.

Height Barriers Installed to Prevent Heavy Vehicles on Flyover

The Shaheed Gowari Adivasi Flyover has height-limitation structures in place precisely to keep trucks and tankers off the elevated stretch. These measures were introduced after several past incidents involving oversized vehicles attempting to use the flyover. However, repeated violations have highlighted the need for stricter enforcement and possible redesign of signage to ensure compliance.

Police personnel were deployed to clear the obstruction, and normal traffic flow was restored shortly afterward.
