Nagpur: The Nagpur Regional Transport Office (RTO) carried out a major enforcement drive against private travel operators on Saturday for allegedly overcharging passengers amid the festive rush. Acting on passenger complaints and media reports, RTO officials intensified inspections to curb unfair fare practices during the Diwali season.
As part of the operation, four RTO flying squads inspected 245 travel buses operating on intercity and interstate routes. The checks revealed multiple violations, including fare manipulation and traffic rule breaches. Officials subsequently issued e-challans to 52 buses, of which 11 were found overcharging passengers, leading to the recovery of ₹41,000 in fines.
The RTO has urged passengers to report any incidents of overcharging, assuring that strict action will be taken against violators after verification. Officials emphasized that the drive will continue to ensure fair travel rates and protect commuters’ rights during festive and peak travel seasons.
