Nagpur: The city of Nagpur experienced heavy rainfall on Monday evening, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for Tuesday, September 10. Moderate to heavy rain is expected during this period, with the city already recording 956.3 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon season.

On Monday, despite a sunny start to the day, the weather took a sharp turn around 4 pm, with heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. The downpour, which lasted approximately 45 minutes, resulted in the weather department recording 5 mm of rainfall in Nagpur by 5:30 pm.

In other parts of Vidarbha, Gondia district received the maximum rainfall at 53 mm, while Chandrapur recorded 13 mm, Bhamhapuri 7 mm, and Gadchiroli 6 mm. The weather patterns are influenced by a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, which is pushing moisture into Central India's atmosphere.

This low-pressure area is expected to move towards North Chhattisgarh via Odisha in the next 24 hours, potentially bringing more rain to Nagpur and surrounding areas.
