Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) Nuisance Detection Squad carried out a swift operation on Tuesday, May 20, against individuals and establishments found violating cleanliness and plastic ban norms in public areas. A total of 16 cases were registered, and fines amounting to ₹11,500 were collected.
The crackdown targeted offences such as urinating in public, littering, spitting, and using banned plastic bags below 79 microns. The squad imposed the following penalties:
- 7 cases of unclean surroundings near handcarts, stalls, paan shops, hawkers, and vegetable vendors resulted in ₹2,800 in fines (₹400 each).
- 3 shopkeepers were fined ₹1,200 for dumping garbage on roads, footpaths, or open spaces (₹400 each).
- 4 cases involved obstructing traffic by erecting unauthorized structures like stages or arches, with fines totaling ₹2,500.
- 5 individuals involved in other types of public nuisance not specified in the above categories were fined ₹1,000.
- 4 institutions responsible for similar nuisances were penalized a total of ₹4,000.
The action was led by Virsen Tambe, head of the Nuisance Detection Squad.
Zone-Wise Major Fines:
- In Laxmi Nagar zone, Airport Centre Point Hotel was fined ₹5,000 for dumping construction and demolition (C&D) waste on the roadside.
- Heda Buildcon Elite Homes was penalized ₹10,000 for placing construction materials on public roads.
- In Gandhibagh zone, Dhakne Plastic was fined ₹5,000 for the use of banned plastic.
These actions led to a total recovery of ₹20,000 from just 3 major cases across the city zones.
The NMC has reiterated its commitment to enforcing cleanliness and anti-plastic regulations and warned of stricter action against repeated offenders.
