Nagpur: Pardi Police have registered a case against a man and his parents in connection with the alleged abetment of his 31-year-old wife’s suicide, following allegations of prolonged dowry harassment, domestic abuse, and cruelty.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Rajiv Kumar Mohan Pathak (38), a native of Sitamarhi, Bihar, currently residing in Laxmi Nagar, Delhi, alleged that the deceased, Pinky Ashish Jha (31), was his sister. She had married Ashish Gayanath Jha (31) around 11 years ago, and the couple had two children. The other accused, Madhukant Jha (65) and Indrasan Gayanath Jha (60), are her in-laws. All three accused are residents of Shyam Nagar, Pardi, Nagpur.
According to the complaint, since the marriage, Pinky was allegedly subjected to physical and mental harassment by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands and frequent domestic disputes.
The FIR further alleges that Ashish Jha was involved in an extramarital relationship, which often led to arguments between the couple. It also states that he frequently suspected his wife’s character, adding to her mental distress.
Police said that, allegedly unable to bear the continued harassment by her husband and mother-in-law, Pinky consumed Sulphas pesticide tablets after locking herself inside her house in Shyam Nagar on the morning of July 14, 2026, and died by suicide.
Based on the complaint filed by her brother, Pardi Police registered Crime No. 389/2026 against the three accused under Sections 108 (abetment of suicide), 85, 115(2), 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police said an accidental death (ADR) case had initially been registered, and after inquiry, the FIR was lodged based on the complainant’s allegations. The investigation is underway.
