Nagpur: Continuing its intensified late-night crackdown under Operation U-Turn, Nagpur Traffic Police led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Lohit Matani, on Saturday booked one parent for allowing a minor to drive, while also registering multiple cases of rash and drunk driving.
According to officials, action was initiated against 46 motorists for rash driving under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In a notable move, one parent was booked under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act for permitting a minor to operate a vehicle, highlighting the police department’s strict approach towards curbing juvenile driving.
During the drive, police also registered 31 cases of drunk driving after conducting extensive checks across city roads. As part of the operation, 810 breath analysis tests were carried out, leading to several first information reports (FIRs) being filed at respective police stations for further legal action.
Officials added that enforcement under Operation U-Turn will continue in multiple phases, with fresh action scheduled between 11 pm and 2 am to target reckless and intoxicated drivers.
Police have appealed to citizens, especially parents, to act responsibly and avoid allowing minors behind the wheel, while also urging motorists to refrain from drunk and rash driving to ensure road safety.
