Nagpur : The 20-day-long strike by a section of contractual workers at Adani Power Limited’s Tiroda plant concluded peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, with workers resuming duties the following day. The resolution came after the company’s intervention and successful mediation between the contractor agencies and the agitating workers.
The contract workers had been on a chain hunger strike and had halted work, raising several demands against the contractor agencies. While a local political leader claimed credit for facilitating the settlement, sources indicate that his involvement was minimal and largely aimed at gaining political mileage from the situation.
Adani Power Limited’s management took proactive steps by engaging both the contractors and the striking workers to arrive at a mutually agreeable solution. “It was primarily a dispute between the workers and their respective contractors. Adani Power had a limited role in the issue but ensured that the contractors complied with all legal obligations regarding wages and worker benefits. The company stepped in to facilitate a win-win outcome for both parties,” said a source closely involved in the discussions.
Both the contractor agencies and the workers expressed gratitude to the management of Adani Power Limited, Tiroda for its crucial role in resolving the industrial relations (IR) issues.
Adani Power’s Tiroda plant, located strategically in the MIDC Growth Centre, is Maharashtra’s largest thermal power facility, with an installed capacity of 3,300 MW. It plays a vital role in the state’s power infrastructure and supports thousands of direct and indirect jobs in the region.
The plant benefits from its logistical proximity to the Mumbai-Howrah rail line via the Gondia railhead for coal transportation and operates under long-term power purchase agreements with the Maharashtra government. It also integrates advanced environmental management systems and is registered under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
In addition to its industrial contributions, Adani Power Tiroda is also known for its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in the region, which include initiatives in healthcare, education, livelihood generation, and infrastructure development for surrounding communities.
