Nagpur: The Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Nagpur Police Crime Branch arrested a 26-year-old man and seized a country-made revolver (desi sixer) along with two live cartridges during a special operation near Gandhi Sagar Lake on Wednesday evening.
The accused has been identified as Mohammad Sohel Mohammad Sabir (26), a resident of Bhutia Darwaza, Dasara Road, Mahal, Nagpur.
According to police, acting on a tip-off received from a confidential informant, an SSB team laid a trap near the boundary wall of Gandhi Sagar Lake under Ganeshpeth Police Station limits. During the operation, conducted in the presence of two independent witnesses, the suspect was intercepted and searched.
The search led to the recovery of a country-made firearm (revolver) valued at ₹30,000 and two live cartridges worth approximately ₹2,000 each, taking the total value of the seized property to ₹34,000.
Police said the accused was found in possession of the firearm without a valid licence, in violation of the prohibitory orders issued under the Maharashtra Police Act.
Based on the seizure, an offence was registered under Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Following the action, the accused and the seized weapon were handed over to Ganeshpeth Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The operation was carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Nanware, along with Naik Police Constable Sheshrao Raut, Police Constables Ashwin Mange, Kunal Masram and Sameer Sheikhof the Social Security Branch (SSB).
