Nagpur: A 51-year-old sales manager allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Koradi after reportedly facing severe stress over a property transaction involving a customer who had already paid the agreed ₹38 lakh for a plot but was allegedly asked to pay an additional ₹12 lakh as development charges.
Koradi police have registered a case against Ajay Meshram (45), director of Sainath Realities, in connection with the incident.
According to the complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife, Ranjana Maroti Lanjewar (42), her husband, Maroti Chirkutrao Lanjewar (51), had been working as a sales manager with Sainath Realities on Khadgaon Road near Lava Dhaba since 2021.
Police said Lanjewar had facilitated a property deal between the company and customer Shivnath Thakre (50) in 2021. The deal involved a plot in Prarthana Nagari-01 for ₹38 lakh, with the amount reportedly agreed to be paid in instalments over five years.
The complaint states that after Thakre paid the entire ₹38 lakh, Meshram allegedly demanded a further ₹12 lakh towards development charges. He allegedly told the customer that the plot would not be registered in his name unless the additional amount was paid.
The alleged refusal to execute the registration reportedly placed Lanjewar under considerable stress, as he had facilitated the transaction and introduced the customer to the company. According to police, he subsequently went into depression.
On September 6, 2025, at around 8.30 pm, Lanjewar allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Ward No. 12, near Dhamma Kuti Buddha Vihar in Manawtkar Layout, Mahadula.
Following a complaint by his wife, Koradi police registered a case against Meshram under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Lanjewar’s death and the disputed property transaction.
