Nagpur Rural Police Seize Drugs Worth Rs 3.83 Crore in Six Months; 15 NDPS Cases Registered, 12 Booked Under MCOCA

Nagpur: Intensifying its crackdown on narcotics, the Nagpur Rural Police have registered 15 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, between January and June 2026, seizing drugs and other assets collectively worth Rs 3.83 crore.


According to police, the total value of the seized contraband and related property stood at Rs 3,83,36,050, representing a staggering 1,052 per cent increase compared to the total seizures worth Rs 33.20 lakh recorded during the entire year of 2025.


During the six-month drive, police recovered 810 kg of ganja (cannabis)34 kg of opium, and 639 grams of MD (Mephedrone) from various operations carried out across the district.


The figures indicate a sharp rise in enforcement activities. Compared to the total seizures made throughout 2025, ganja seizures increased by 643 per cent, opium seizures rose by 587 per cent, while MD seizures witnessed a massive 1,873 per cent surge in the first half of 2026.


Apart from drug seizures, Nagpur Rural Police have also stepped up action against organised narcotics syndicates. Twelve accused linked to four criminal gangs have been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), 1999, while three repeat offenders involved in drug-related offences have been detained under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act.


Police officials said the anti-narcotics campaign will continue with renewed focus on dismantling organised drug trafficking networks, identifying repeat offenders, and taking stringent legal action to curb the illegal narcotics trade across Nagpur Rural.
