Nagpur Police Recover Around ₹25 Lakh Through Traffic Challans on Independence Day 2024

Nagpur: On the 78th Independence Day, the Nagpur City Traffic Police cracked down on a variety of traffic violations, issuing over 5,000 challans across the city. The fines, which covered several categories, resulted in a total collection of ₹25,53,700. The highest number of offenses was for drunk driving, with 2,669 cases, followed by helmet violations, with 1,897 cases recorded under section 129/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).


There were also 266 cases of motorists caught using mobile communication devices while driving, leading to fines under section 184(C) MVA.


Other notable offenses included:


• Parking on roads: 135 cases under section 122/177 MVA.

• Carrying excess passengers: 184 cases under section 194A MVA.

• Failure to stop before the stop line: 51 cases under MMVR 237/177 MVA.

• Triple seat violations: 178 cases under section 128/177 MVA.

• Fancy number plates: 29 cases under section 51/50 CMVR.


Additionally, 60 cases were filed against drivers for not wearing seat belts, while heavy vehicles entering restricted zones led to 14 cases under section 199/177 CMVR.


This comprehensive drive, conducted on a day of national significance, was part of the Traffic Branch’s efforts to improve road safety and enforce stricter adherence to traffic rules in Nagpur.
