Nagpur: Panic spread through the Gajanan Nagar locality in Dhantoli late on Sunday, June 1 night after residents mistakenly suspected a case of rape when they spotted a specially-abled woman in a partially disrobed state at a public garden. However, Dhantoli Police quickly intervened and confirmed that no such crime had taken place.

According to officials, the woman had come to visit her relatives in the Dhantoli area earlier in the day. Around 11 pm, she reportedly stepped out alone and walked to the nearby Gajanan Nagar Garden. It is believed that she voluntarily removed some of her clothes, possibly due to a psychological condition.

Alarmed by her semi-nude appearance, locals feared she had been assaulted and immediately informed the police. Acting swiftly, a team led by Senior Police Inspector Anamika Mirzapure of Dhantoli Police Station rushed to the spot and began an inquiry.

Police personnel recorded statements from the woman and her family members. After a thorough investigation, officials confirmed that no foul play or sexual assault had occurred.

Dhantoli Police urged the public not to jump to conclusions and to report such incidents responsibly. “We understand the sensitivity of such cases, but it’s important to wait for official confirmation before spreading information,” said Mirzapure.

The incident caused a brief commotion in the area but was resolved without further complications. Police have appealed to citizens to avoid speculation that could lead to unnecessary panic.
