Nagpur: Wadi police have registered a case against two men for allegedly cheating a laboratory technician and several other youths of Rs 32.24 lakh by promising them jobs in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and allegedly issuing fake appointment letters.

The alleged offences took place between July 31, 2023, and August 16, 2024, while the case was registered on September 4, 2026.

According to the complaint, the 32-year-old complainant, a resident of Kalyan in Thane district, had become acquainted with the first accused, Kishor Suresh Dhone (45), a resident of Nalwadi, Wardha, during recruitment for the BKC area in Mumbai. The complainant alleged that Dhone claimed to be working with the Bank of Baroda at BKC, Mumbai, and told him that he had contacts who could help secure a permanent government job.

The accused allegedly promised the complainant a job in the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and collected Rs 32,24,300 from him during the period mentioned in the complaint.

Police said the accused allegedly provided the complainant with a fake joining letter but did not arrange the promised job or return the money.

The complaint further alleges that the accused also provided fake appointment letters to several of the complainant’s friends and other youths, including individuals identified in the police complaint, as part of the alleged fraud.

The second accused has been identified as Vikas Janardhan Chaudhary. Neither of the two accused had been arrested at the time the case was registered.

Wadi police registered the case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to cheating, impersonation, forgery and use of forged documents. Police are investigating the alleged recruitment racket and the involvement of other persons.

Further investigation is underway.
